Remixing 'Ot Azoy'
Jewish Music and techno-nerdism is such a great combo, I think. And while I haven't asked him, I'd bet that Jeffery Kaplan agrees. Yesterday I ran into a video that Kaplan had produced for one of his Learning Sciences graduate courses at the Indiana University in Bloomington. The video, which Kaplan describes as a Documentary Vlog, explored a bit of the history of the Yiddish folk song "Ot Azoy" (aka "Ot Azoy Neyt A Shnayder" and "This is The Way The Tailor Sews.") In particular it has fun looking at two different attempts to remix the song, Cab Calloway's scat jazz and Kaplans own hip-hop electronica.
